Hot: Day 23-PUSH!

My neighbor had a baby yesterday. (SQUEE!)

She pushed for 45 minutes.

When I had a baby I pushed for 4 minutes.

If you’ve had a baby, how long did you push?

If you’ve adopted, how long did you have to wait between the birth and to being able to hold your baby?

If you’ve never had a baby and want to know how I got away with only pushing for 4 minutes, it’s because there is a God, and He loves me.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with hot. But given there are thousands of babies born everyday I’m just wondering how long it took most of them to get here.

  1. Hmm, I don’t remember exactly, but I believe with my daughter, I only pushed about 10 minutes, after 8 hours of (induced) labor. And with my son, I know I pushed no more than 5 minutes after 1 hour and 23 minutes of (non-induced) labor. I’m kind of scared with baby number 3.

  3. Labour – 42.5 hours

Without Pain relief – 36 hours, the time it took the midwife to decide he was stuck due to being positioned posterior (back to back) with me and I need some help

Time with the epidural that the doctor injected wrongly so only affected my left side – 6.5 hours

    Time pushing – 45 mins!

(they told me I had 60 mins to deliver or they’d send me for a c-section so i pushed HARD!)

  4. I don’t know exactly how long it was timewise- but my guess is well under 10 minutes both times.

When I hit transition the babies were born within 20 minutes- like 6cm to delivered BAM.

Seemed long at the time lol- but really, it was very fast.

  5. labor” #1 – 8hrs, #2 6hrs
told “don’t push!” while they hurried to find the OB
both born after no more than 5 contractions

#3 has 4 more weeks, so we’ll see how that goes.

  6. The Papoosekin was out after only 19 minutes of pushing. Soooo many women have cursed me for that, so I always thought it was really short for a first child. I need to point all those women here! Seems there are plenty of women who were lightning quicker than me, including you!

  7. I’m almost embarrased at how easy labor and delivery of my son were. The timeline:

    6:15 pm: water broke
    4 am: labor induced
    7 am: epidural placed
    7:01 am: fell asleep
10 am: woke up, at 10 cm dilated, and fully effaced
    10:30 started pushing
11:00 told to stop pushing because the doctor wasn’t there yet
    11:15 Doctor is ready
    11:18 DS is born

So, I slept through labor, only pushed about 30 minutes, waited another 15, and out he came!

Next time? No labor. No pushing. Just c-section.

You deserved 4 minutes after such a rough pregnancy!

  10. Baby 1: I was in labor 11 hours pushed 14 times, baby came out with the help of forceps. Bless my 30 veteren of an OB, otherwise I would have been pushing 1-2 hours. She was 9 lbs. 10 oz

Baby 2: I was in labor 12 hours and he popped out in 3 pushes. He was 9lbs. 3 oz

I was induced and had an epidural with both. Next time I will avoid induction, very painful contractions before the Heavenly Epidural!

  11. #1 – 14 hours of labor, 3 hours pushing and just after I yelled, “give me the episiotomy now!”

#2 – 6 hours of labor, 30 minutes pushing, resulted in his broken collar bone (poor thing!) – that “pop” sound scared me to death!

  12. 1 hour and 46 minutes of pushing for three “ten counts” during every single contraction… but my epidural hadn’t worked and I was in tremendous pain, so it felt A LOT longer. I’m hoping it’s a little easier next time around. Four minutes might be asking too much, but I’d settle for an hour or less!

  13. I beat ya! With my 3rd, and only because this stuff happens after 2 other kids have turned your vagina into an expressway, I say up to get my epidural and accidentally pushed her out. Yeah. she flew out of me, rolled across the bed and tried to bungee jump with the umbilical cord.

  14. With our Sprogling it was 11 hours of labour (Induced, fell asleep, woke up with contractions every minute and puking on every second one. Rock on!)

and just over 2 hours pushing. Would have been quicker if the nurses had realized I couldn’t feel anything but pressure and had no idea when to push.

  15. With Grace two pushes and she popped out. After first push Doctor exclaimed to the nurse “We have a pusher, get ready”

John was even faster, I never really pushed. Nurse came in to check me and he was half out. The doctor came racing in in time to catch!

  17. Cordy was a scheduled c-section because she was breech, so I didn’t push at all.

With Mira, I pushed for all of 10 minutes or less. And much of that was “don’t push yet – we’re not quite ready”. Of course, I was in labor for 21 hours, so that whole pushing thing wasn’t so bad.

  18. I was in induced labor (due to very high blood pressure) for 28 hours and only dilated to 3cm so they told me they were preparing the OR for a c-section. 45 minutes later when they came to take me to the O.R. I was at 9 1/2 cm so they said oh great you can start pushing soon. In total there was 36 hours of labor followed by 3 1/2 hours of pushing. Finally they brought in a Dr. and the vacuum when the Mid Wife decided the baby was sunny side up. I ended up with a 4th degree tear and the most beautiful little girl ever. I am just over two months along with #2 and I hope this birth goes a little easier, 4 minutes would be lovely
