Casey vs. the Motorized Neti Pot

I am a neti expert.

A neti lover.

So when I received a battery operated neti pot from BlogHer?

I waited for the perfect sinus issue to test it out.

That issue came last night, as did the test.

Final answer?

Give this to an amateur and they’re gonna drown.

(This entire video was recorded, edited, uploaded and posted from my Motorola Xoom with the built in Movie Studio App. Even cooler? I did it all with one hand while the baby snoozed in my other arm.)

((Also, pardon the, um, layout issues I’m having. Consider it an workout for your brain. Sorry about that. Working on it!!)

  1. Haha you rock! The sinus rinse (by neilmed) squeeze bottle is what I use. I HATE netipots and having to tilt your head and pretty much only do it in the shower b/c of the mess. I LOVE the squeeze bottle and just shooting it all up there. It works so much better. The battery operation seems way excessive when you cna just use a squeeze bottle. Thanks for making my day with that review!

    1. @Angela,
I use the same squeeze bottle. It rocks.

So does this video. Watching it was kind of like watching my mom after she’s just told one of her seriously corny jokes. Everyone ends up laughing hysterically, not because the joke itself was very funny, but because watching my mom crack herself up over it is so hi-freakin-larious! Thanks for such a good laugh today!

  2. Ok..I know I am not supposed to laugh at your pain, but that was hilarious!

I was trying to watch this at work (stealth-style) but I think the jig was up when snort laughed.

    Thanks for the giggles!!

  3. you are a brave, brave woman. i LOVE a good neti pot, but that thing scares me. although i’ll be honest, it’s the kind of thing i might have wanted to try. i’m glad you went first. (and i’ll be sticking with my trusty low-tech version.)

  4. I’m so excited to show Michael this when he gets home. He was a wee bit too excited to get the one leslie didn’t want. Although, if she ever sees your review, she’s gonna ask for it back, I just know it.

  5. HAHAHAHA! A regular neti pot to me is just as funny though. I about died when I watched my husband try it out. My mom is a big believer in the things, but they just have not shown much benefit for me or the hubby.

  6. Now, you’ve gone and scared everybody and they won’t know the joy of clean sinuses!

I can’t use regular Neti pots, but I use the NeilMed sinus rinse all the time (use it on my son every day during the winter) because it shoots the water for you. I had no idea that the one from BlogHer was battery operated! I’m so excited! It’s sitting in my cabinet just waiting for me!

  7. Thats hilarious!!

Yes tilting the head seems like a much less painful method πŸ˜‰ – the walmart netpot that i used was a life saver during my 3rd pregnancy. I HAD HORRID sinus issues with it.. and couldnt (well didnt feel comfortable) taking much. It was my only relief. Didnt hurt bad tho πŸ˜‰ that thing looks like some odd looking sex toy! no thanks πŸ™‚

  8. My mom has been using a regular water pik (the one with the huge bin) with a nose attachment for the hose… HOSE, for YEARS! She got this one and HATES it! I’m sticking to my Neti Pot.

  9. I find the concept of using a neti pot frightening already but after seeing that, I’m convinced that I am not going to try to shoot water up my nose tipped or not tipped!

Also, love how most of the video is you laughing =)

  10. I’m not an amateur but I think that would kill me. I almost drowned when I first used the squeeze thingy. I think I may have forced some out of my ear at some point. It’s an acquired skill. πŸ™‚

  13. I still can’t get the neti pot to work in my nose… I swear I just have wonky sinuses. I’ve tried it a LOT. And an aerosol kind of can too… that didn’t do much either.

But this…. Neti pot and vibrator’s lovechild? Funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

    Best part of my day.

  14. I just need you to know that I am currently laying in bed with my five year old in a hotel room with my mother and plugged my ear phones in to watch this video. Totally worth it. THAT THING IS SCARY.

  15. Wow, Casey you are so brave!!! I didn’t even know they came motorized….I think I best stick to the un-motorized version…safer that way…and trust me when I say that adding more salt to really clean out the sinuses is a BIG mistake!!

  16. There is a reason people plug their noses when jumping in a pool. The water forced up the nose is unpleasant no matter if you invite it or not. This video, though, is hilarious.

  17. OMG, the combination of water and the laughing made the decision to watch this post-lunch (lunch with a 32oz soda) but pre-bathroom a bad idea. Thank GOD my lady bits don’t know they’re over 40!
