Dear Moz,
Look, I realize we haven’t gotten off to the best start. There was the whole barf my brains out thing which is never a good way to start any relationship, then there were the boobs of fury that didn’t let me do much of anything but lie around and keep them as still as possible. We’ve moved into the “I miss pooping” part of the relationship but today Mozzi, today is what I need to talk to you about.
Today I took you and your sister in to see a friend about a doppler. We tried to find you 7 weeks ago to no avail, but given the large amounts of vomit emanating from me, I took it as a pretty good sign that you were holding strong. However now you’re just getting comfortable in your teenage weeks. There’s been times I’ve wondered if you’re around or if you jumped ship and sailed back to the big nursery in the sky, so today we sought you out.
DUDE, let me just say right now that during your sister’s first doppler reading her little heartbeat just hopped right out of those speakers loud and strong and true. You? Must have buried yourself behind my large intestine and covered yourself with a kidney. Those several minutes it took to find your little heartbeat may have well been an eternity. And that you only stuck around to be heard for approximately three nanoseconds? Leads me to believe I am either birthing bigfoot or a very stubborn child.
Then someone on twitter reminded me that I’ll be birthing a Taurus. Which is what I am. Ask your dad, stubborn ranks pretty high on my list of applicable adjectives. YAY! More stubborn in my life! And the fact that you’re so willing to let it show at 15 weeks in utero? I’m already saving pennies for all the things that will be invariably hulk-smashed during your teenage years (by both of us, let’s be honest.)
I know you’re in there Mozzi, and I am now even more convinced that you are a boy. And not to compare you to your sister, but she waved during her first ultrasound and she also came on her due date in less than three pushes…so if you’re also competitive like me, you’ve got some things to think about in there before our first doctor’s appointment next Friday.
Until next time,
Mama.
can’t wait to keep reading your letters to him/her for a long time to come!

@Kelsey, Let’s just say him until an ultrasound proves otherwise. My poor psyche needs to be built up to be the mother of a son.

I too, am excited to read your letters!
PS- It must be asked, because for over a year I pronounced Moosh wrong… how do YOU pronounce Mozzi?

@Alisha in Ohio, Um, I guess Mohzzi is the closest I could come to spelling it how we say it? But if I’ve learned anything it’s that my Utah accent does me in every time.

@Alisha in Ohio,
Eeek, how do you pronounce Moosh?! (New reader!)

Glad you heard him (definately a him) even if it was only for 3 nanoseconds. Can’t wait to read more open letters to your little guy. XO

Aw. There is no sweeter sound on earth, honestly, hearing that heartbeat, even only for a few seconds.

@Loukia, Had I been a little less “CLAWS IN THE CEILING FROM ANXIETY” I may have been able to enjoy it more, thanks kid.

I think it’s a boy. And I think it’s just a little shy, taking after your husband (you can skip telling him I said that).
Awe, so cute. Like father like son…

@designhermomma, Aw shucks, I never looked at it that way.

Ok, I’m 30 weeks pregnant with my second child, which is a son. My first child is 9 and a girl. Anyway, same exact thing happened when they first tried the doppler on my little guy. Thankfully my doc could hear something long before I ever could because I was freaking.
Careful, he has now become annoyed with anything on my belly. He kicks at the doppler a lot and kicks any book on my belly at bedtime. Kind of makes me scared for what I’m going to have to deal with when he pops out. My daughter never did any of that and she came out calm and sweet! haha

Mozzi must be a boy. Gage needs a partner in crime. And Eddie needs another Indy dude so he can say he has a posse in Indy.

AHEM.
I am not ashamed to say I just gasped, teared up, squeed and then got really mad that you live so. damn. far. away.

Yay for heartbeats!
I don’t have any boys, but all of my girls are very stubborn. You’ve been warned. 🙂

Totally a taurus boy. Sounds just like my brother was, on the inside. Of course, my daughter was a little more Moosh – waved, flipped and sucked her thumbs, had a deafening heartbeat and was born less than six hours into her due date, with only about five pushes.

I was so happy to read this, not just for the heartbeat news, which is always exciting, but also that you’re comfortable enough now to write to the baby.

The greatest sound is the bomp bomp of that tiny life inside!! So glad you heart him/her!
My doctors can never find the heartbeat at my first appointment, it worries me every time so I schedule an ultrasound just to make sure the peanut is really there and doing well. I have a weird uterus (prolapsed or something like that) so it makes it hard to hear the heartbeat in early pregnancy on the doppler.

Is the placenta anterior? That would make it more difficult to find that heartbeat..

Mozzi is a Taurus? AWESOME. 🙂
I’m one too. Stubborn-ness rocks. Ha. Um, boys are different. That is for sure. But really, you could just have a camera shy little girl. Oh the horror. 😉

That is great news! I just want to know why you named your new “son” after a pizza shop?

Both of my girls (one currently in utero) had to literally be held in place by the doctors to see/hear their hearts. Those little buggars are fast in there!
Can’t wait until you get to see “him” 🙂

So happy you got to hear a heartbeat.
Be prepared for him to not cooperate during the ultrasound to confirm that he is, in fact, a boy.

There is NOTHING more special than hearing a baby’s heartbeat 🙂

Yeah!
That is a most wonderful sound.
This one took a long, long time to find the heartbeat at 12 weeks.
Then again it took awhile to track down at my 17 week appt and it was a brief moment long. The baby did kick the doppler as soon as the midwife touch my belly so we were sure she was moving in there.
I had my ultrasound last week, at 19 weeks. She was not the most cooperative for the tech either. Which was okay in the end because we got to watch her longer and the tech took three looks to confirm that she was a girl.
I hope you are feeling better and getting rest.

With my last one I had an anterior placenta (front and center). We were not able to get a hb on the doppler until 18-ish weeks along. He’s now wriggling in my arms, keeping me from typing well. Hang in there, everything will be just fine!

Totally BOY, my dear. And we couldn’t hear this little guy at our first Doppler check at all. Our boys are conspiring against us already….in utero!! Such a dude thing to do. So happy you heard that precious thump.

I don’t know how you could stand waiting this long to hear a heartbeat. Granted, I have a different pregnancy past but seriously – the not knowing would kill me. That’s some discipline.
