ten things…blogher style.

10. Alexis. Thursday night didn’t go so well for me. I was working the crowd at the Social Luxe Lounge when I was hit upside the head with panic for whatever reason. I ended the night crumpled up in a corner crying. I’m giving God complete credit for somehow allowing Alexis to find me, whereupon she gathered me and my stuff and ran interference for me out of the party, up 6th avenue and back to the safety of my hotel room. Alexis? Thank you, whether you are aware of it or not, you answered a very desperate prayer that night.

9. The Serenity Suite. What a brilliant idea Maggie had to come up with a safe place for those of us with any sort of social hiccup, be it depression, anxiety, the pressure to drink or just plain overwhelmedness. Huge kisses to Heather for organizing as well, BlogHer for allowing it and all my fellow hostesses for hosting it.

8.* Coming home with a Luminess Airbrush makeup system from the CraziBeautiful Suite. Dude. It stayed on through the State Fair sweats, nothing has to touch my face to get makeup on and it’s really quick and easy to use. Dare I say foolproof? Cody has even noticed a huge difference. And he’s a dude. Who doesn’t exactly notice much on a regular basis.Expensive? Yes. But knowing what I know now? Worth it. (I feel the same way about it as I do about my Clarisonic. I hemmed and hawed for over a year about the purchase of a Clarisonic, and when I finally did? I regretted not buying one sooner.)

7. My roommates. Seriously. I could have spent the entire week with just them locked in the room and it would have been just as fantastic. We snuck away to have dinner in Little Italy on Saturday night and everything about it was perfect. One of those moments you lock away forever that also just happens to be slightly garlic scented.

tourists.
me and sam
times square with my BFF. yes.

6.* The Metamucil suite. Look, Emily discovered first hand that woman cannot live on cupcakes and vodka alone. I even tweeted “LESS VODKA! MORE FIBER!” at one point. They had an unlimited supply of tasty tasty fiber shakes and after discussing how many women enjoyed a good poop but weren’t um, going so well (see previous cupcake/vodka comment) I sang the praises of the Metamucil suite. (It was also conveniently next door to the Serenity Suite, coincidence? I think not.) Bonus? I received a copy of “What’s Your Poo Telling You?” when I came home. Fascinating book, for reals.

5. Chelsea Market. See previous photo loaded post about Chelsea Market. A special thanks to Loralee and Jo for letting me tag along.

4.* The Verizon Wireless MiFi card. Verizon asked if I’d like to bring one of these tiny little secure wireless networks with me to New York to try out. Little did I know it would be going across the country with me as well. When I had to give it back yesterday Charlton Heston quotes came to mind.

  • It worked in the car, while driving across more than half  the distance of the country. We don’t carry smart phones, but we do have iPod touches, and being able to use Urban Spoon from the freeway to find the best Thai food in Omaha, NE? Spectacular.
  • Sam, roommate extraordinaire, is Canadian. Canadians are charged an arm and several smaller extremities when using their iPhones outside their native country. Having the MiFi allowed her to continue to use her iPhone obsessively without having to give up phalanges upon returning to Canada.
  • Between BlogHer and BlogIndiana this past weekend? I never had to worry about questionable wireless at an event space. I was also allowed to win friends and influence people due to the capability of it allowing up to five devices to be connected at once.

3. A hug from Polly. No offense to the other howevermanybillion people on the planet, but Polly is officially the. best. hugger. ever. Not to mention she was plopped right in front of me at the perfect moment on Friday morning. After collapsing on Thursday night, God (or fate, whomever or whatever you choose to go with) put exactly who I needed to see right in my path. Polly was one of these people.

@lesbiandad

2.* Miraclebody jeggings and the Remington curling wand from Getting Gorgeous. First of all? Me? Skinny jeans? PFFT. But make them stretchy with an elastic waistband that are comfier than my pajama pants? Yes please. Plus they really look like jeans. Unlike some other jeggings out there that have the stitching PAINTED ONTO THEM. blech. Second of all? This curling wand thing? It’s like hot rollers without all the work. I’m not sure what about it makes it so different, Addie will tell you it’s because it’s pink. I will tell you that it’s less than $30 and hair-changing.

1. Being me. Especially when I thought that I lost me on Thursday night.

(Yep, this post contains reviews of complimentary products I received while attending BlogHer, I can assuring you the opinions and the mentions of them are purely voluntary and my own.)

  1. This post makes me want to buy a lot of things, including but not limited to a Remington Curling Wand, the make-up sprayer of awesomeness, and Metamucil.

So far, I’ve already got the Metamucil. Go me.

      1. @Casey,

Don’t tease me, that sounds heavenly.

Also, did your blog just censor the use of the word c*cktails?

But seriously… I wonder if Metamucil cocktails will catch on. You should patent that idea.

Also, the pink lemonade flavor is delicious.

  2. I hope to make it there next year. I’m always a bitter betty about all of the tweets. Then jealous uh….julie? about the fun stories afterward. Even if I got no swag, I think it would be totally worth it. I’m more interested in meeting people than hauling home a suitcase full of crap I have no room for.

  5. I suddenly want to buy things I don’t need and ponder what my poo is saying. But mostly I want to give you a hug because you? I think you are a FABULOUS you. And I barely know you, so I can only imagine how TRULY. FABULOUS. I would think you are if I’d known you forever.
Um, yeah, that made more sense and didn’t sound quite so creepy in my head. 🙂

  7. Late to the party, though I’ve been looking at this post on my phone forever and kind of thought I already commented. Maybe I was thinking of our emails. This photo of Ann and I is a treasure to me. An honest to God treasure. You are amazing. Thank you for spreading the magic dust of your gift around so freely. xo
