I’m sitting on the same row with some of my most favorite Utahns (Kim. Loralee. Lindsey. Barbara.) at a conference this afternoon. We’re kind of paying attention, but not really. (sorry speaker!)

Kim gets a heartbreaking text from her brother in law.

We all do what we do best, we hug. We console. We discuss. We support. (And later buy itty bitty bundt cakes.)

Kim then shows us a picture of her brother in law. It’s of him, 8 days old. The day he came home to his adoptive family in Brazil. He had never seen the photo before. But he has now.

Then I get an email from a photography client who has to push her booking back because a birth mom has chosen to place her child with them. Naturally, she wants to wait until her family is all together before taking the photo.

We all got goosebumps. (Lindsey and Kim are both powerhouses in the adoption blogging community…)

Say what you want about making money with blogging, but it’s blogging that brought us together today and this is the kind of stuff that blogging is really about. The meaningful stuff. The stuff that can’t be bought or reviewed or even put into words.

If you get into this for money and aren’t willing to put in real work and a whole lot of the real you? You’re doing it wrong. I’m sorry, but you are.

Do it because you love it…and when you’re doing something you love, the opportunities (and sometimes money) follow.

  7. Well they asked me to come talk about that, so that’s what I am doing. I brought up in my talk how blogs can bring so much more as well. Not loving the point that I’m doing it “wrong” if I’m doing it for money. You can be doing it for friends, you can be doing it for support AND yes you can be doing it for money. You can and it is wonderful. My 3 best friends are from the blog world, the blog world has helped me out of hard times AND I make money from it. I was excited to meet you the other day and listen to you during your panel tmrw. I would have loved to talk about the other side of blogging like you get to…but thats not what they asked me to come speak about. And I’m not doing it wrong 😦 Darn it now I am all bummed out.

  14. I was in the audience of your panel. I can’t tell you how brave I found you and the four other ladies sitting at that table. The ability to lay it all out there for others to see takes such courage. It’s that courage I haven’t had in the 6 years (or has it been 8?) I’ve had depression and anxiety. Because of your panel I wrote about it for my first time today. Talk about scary.

  17. ah case …you said it best! blogging is the intro, the sweetness comes when we forge those irl connections. i, for one, am thankful for you. thanks for being so generous with your time, energy, patience and knowledge.

    i cried a little when they moved your panel. sooo wanted to be there.

  19. It was so amazing to meet in person women I had only known from their blogs! I enjoyed meeting you at the GNO! I was so sad when they moved your panel and I couldn’t attend! It sounds like it went well, I heard a ton of great things about it.
