I was told to ‘CHILL’ in all caps tonight from my contractor.
I can see why the moosh is so smitten kitten with him. (Truth be told she’s moved onto Keith, the do everything and anything man that works for Gene, he has a charming Midwestern drawl.)
I can also see why home renovations can easily lead to divorce. Or at least leaving you wishing you had built a separate bedroom for that toad that insists on calling himself your husband who thinks you have crappy taste in wood flooring. (Note: We have two extra bedrooms plus miss moosh will have a bunk bed, and no I don’t want him to sleep in either of them, he’s not a toad and he loves my taste in fine bamboo flooring.)
With the (possible) toking subcontractors, fantastic curtains from JCPenney and walls with pain colors like ‘Urban Putty’ ‘Studio Taupe’ ‘Whole Wheat’ and ‘Enchanted’ I’m about to fall on my face with excitement.
Naturally this is where I would show you pictures. BUT HA! I HAVE NONE! I’m so busy making kissy faces at my floors and sniffing the paint fumes that I keep forgetting to bring my camera.
Appliances will be delivered Monday (ZOMG APPLIANCES THAT I PICKED OUT AND THAT ARE MIIIIIINE!)
And if all goes well? I get to move out of the hotel on the ninth and into my home on the tenth (or something like that.)
Pictures are coming. This whole thing will be the best Christmas present ever. EVER.
Now tell me, have home renovations almost lead you down the path of destruction? Also? Is it natural to want to kiss your contractor on the nose?

Okay, can I just say that I am absolutely avocado with envy? What an exciting thing to be going through. I want to pick out wood flooring and kiss strange construction men. *pout* I’m jealous, in case you didn’t notice. Happy for you, though 🙂

Totally normal. I pretty much want to make out with our contractor on a daily basis. Especially after I felt the heat in the floor of our master bathroom.
We are doing a major renovation on a gem of a house built in 1934. It oozes charm, but also used to ooze filth. It won’t be ready until March, but it will be soooooo worth the wait.
Can’t wait to see some pictures. What’s that phrase… “there’s no place like home!”

Our Bath had to be taken down to studs and redone RIGHT AFTER we bought the place- my hubby HATED everything i put in…. had an opinion about everything… “the paint was too light- the vanity too dark… the shower curtain- he wasnt thrilled… the choice of metals- he wasnt a fan…” but after it was all together?? he claimed it as his own… and hate our master… lol- he even told me he loves my choices… 🙂

as for kissing the contractor on the nose? it was my Daddy- i kiss him on the nose often… :-)… the extra plus? my Grandpa was my electrician who put ceiling fans in every room in my house… i kissed him often too!!! lol.

I remember the man that built our house – we called him Dan. Dan the Building Man. (I was 8 at the time, ok?)
To this day whenever we see his truck driving around town my whole family smiles. Good old Dan.

My dad has managed (making my husband his “asst” haha) quite a few of our house projects over the years. Luckily, he cannot divorce me. Luckily. Cannotwaitcannotwaitcannotwaitcannotwait to see the finished project. Though I know I’m not nearly as excited as you. Xmas starts December 10 for Casa de Moosh.

I can honestly say I have never had a desire to kiss a contractor, or anyone that’s ever worn a toolbelt – except of course, that girl from “Tooltime’. OMG, that girl from ‘Tooltime’.

I think that is the best Christmas present EVER! Having your own house is so much fun! You will love it.
Our home improvements have not been big enough to cause serious problems. Paint and crown molding are pretty easy to deal with. I will let you know what happens when we decide to tackle our master bathroom! Yikes!

I adore my contractor, too. And I did, literally, kiss the kitchen floor.
I spent three months driving 45 minutes in both directions to take my kids from our apartment in Chicago to their school in the suburbs while the house was ripped apart.
It was totally worth it.

We had mold when I was preggo with our second, I’m surprised the stress of that and the renovation didn’t make me lose him and my husband. It was awful! I’m so happy for you getting your new house, awesome Christmas present! I am getting a Wii for Christmas!! And our ex-moldy house is up for sale.

I never wanted to kiss MY contractor on the nose. But then, he was my landlord in Iowa. I lived in his unfinished, unheated basement. I don’t suggest living this way during a Midwestern winter like, ever.

We built our current home. We were extremely fortunate to have our friend as our builder and things went relatively smoothly. It was hard for me to deal with the rain slowing us down, being a control freak and all. Still, I wouldn’t change a thing (except maybe the price). I’m so glad you’ll be in your home before Christmas. That makes things so much better!!!

We have not yet done any “contracter-required” reno at our house, however we did do a new overhead fan install as a DIY project, and HOO BOY… that could have ended badly. But we made it through.
I made my husband a steak dinner after he finished…ya know, just to smooth things over :).

We’re currently living in our bedroom as the rest of the house is either under construction or full of stuff that had to be moved from the rooms that are under construction. Totally thought of your motel experience as we moved the loveseat into our bedroom last night. So far it’s kind of fun (yay for a TV in the bedroom!). I’m hoping I still feel that way in February!!

When we were buying the house we currently live in, we had been living in it as a rental for a year. Before we could buy it we had to have it inspected & in order to pass the inspection we (my husband actually) had to do things like scrap the paint off one side of the house & repaint it, & put in new supports under the house & knock out the old ones. Well, unfortunately all that happened the week after I gave birth to our second child. I had all these visions of us snuggling all day inside our cozy house. But what really happened was I had to deal single-handedly with a 4 year old who stopped taking naps the day I gave birth to her sister, while recovering from childbirth & remembering how to care for a newborn, while my husband was outside painting frantically, or in the crawl space under our house building new supports! The weirdest part was after he built the new supports he had to knock out the old ones. I heard all this banging & then the house kind of creaked a little & I hoped with all my might that it wouldn’t collapse on my husband underneath & the rest of us inside. Yeah, add some crazy post partum hormones & an extremely stressed husband & you have a breeding ground for some major fights! No bueno!!

Yes on the husband thing, a resounding NO on the contractor thing! I mean, usually they barely show up, then need 2 months longer than anticipated. It’s typical to want to drop-kick your contractor across your lovely new home. But since that’s not your case – congrats!

I wish we were smart enough to hire a contractor to do all of our stuff. Instead, we are morons and do crazy things ourselves. That might be why the family room ceiling is two different colors, but you won’t notice unless I tell you and I’m not telling you. Ahem.
