  4. Holy heck. And I thought OUR market was low.

My favorite neutral is White Hyacinth from Sherwin Williams. It’s a shade of white but there’s yellow to it so it’s warm – which is really nice when it’s cold outside.

  5. Despite the HIDEOUS paint all over, it’s A FREAKING AWESOME HOUSE!!! Congrats!! Paint colors all depend on your furniture, but nature colors are always a hit in my book.

  8. WHeeeeeeeee!!!!! You get to paint your OWN. HOUSE!!!!! You get to have a YARD. With grass. (and SPRINKLERS, if you were asking my little girl) Oh, and I so covet those Electrolux appliances right along with you. MAYBE you can find stuff with small dings or something in them and get um’ for cheap?? At any rate, SUPER happy for you and your new house! Sad to not have you in our ward soon. 😦

  9. In that case … check out Sherwin-Williams, they have a visualizer so you can see the colors in a room & even change the trim colors. http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

Some of the ones I liked: Sticks & Stones; Harmonic Tan; Baize Green; Koi Pond; Refuge

Congratulations on your new house!! $110k for that gorgeous house?? No way!! (But then again, I do live in CA…)

Perhaps some sage green/medium-ish blue/chocolate brown for colors? Don’t know if that’s too dark for you or not, but it’s what I’d go for. 🙂

I am surprised that you don’t like the red/blue combo on the baseboards. 😉 Who does that honestly?

  12. Love the layout, Casey. And you got a screaming deal – was it a short sale or foreclosure? The layout is good – can’t wait to see what you do with paint, floor coverings, light fixtures, faucets, etc. Putting some $$$ and love into it will be so good for the place.

Nice start! I bet you are seriously excited.

    Your wanna-be friend….

  13. ok, listen to me carefully as I can explain those colors….

First of all, you need to do a quick search through a page or two of my blog and see the beautiful pumpkin orange that is my family room. Yes, I am not kidding. Pumpkin Orange. My mom’s kitchen is like crimson red like Alabama Crimson Tide Red – and you know, colors have equals so I was looking for the Auburn Orange not that I am an Auburn fan AT ALL, but I wanted that color of orange….

I got pumpkin orange. And, then…………I was broke and couldn’t afford to buy more paint so we had to just say to hell with it and make it work….

Fast forward to painting my children’s rooms. They are Mickey Mouse themed and they have these gorgeous yellow and blue walls and omg, please don’t have a heartattack but they make the dolphin room look really nice….but guess what….that was long ago and we figure the kids will want to pick our their own colors soon so we are just leaving them Mickey Mouse Yellow and Blue until which time they decide what they want….

back up a little more and there was the time my husband decided to paint the bathroom while I was gone somewhere as a surprise – he started with mint green and added a sea blue wall for effect

and surely I needn’t say anymore and you are feeling all well and good about your colors…hehehehe

And what a doggone gorgeous house! Congrats.

  14. Maybe I am your neighbor! Just kidding, I live in Indiana, but our nature doesn’t look that good out our back door. The house looks amazing (if you don’t focus on the paint colors) love all the space. My favorite neutral color is “New Penny”. It’s a rosy beige. Love it. Welcome Home!

  15. First, consider what colors you like best, and what *sets* of colors. Clearly not pastel, and you mocked the brights too. Soft neutrals? Desert mutes? Earth tones? Go look at lots of paint strip samples at a store.

Since you’re adoring the Nature (I do too) then you might consider taking palettes from that. Forests are shades of green and brown touched with yellow; through your windows are lots of greens. A beach might be shades of cream and tan accented with light green, turquoise, and pink. A prairie is grass green, bright sky blue, white clouds, dotted with flower colors. Mountains are cool greys and whites with some dark green trees. Any of those can suggest ideas.

Also think about functions. A bedroom should be restful, so cool or earthy colors are good. Kitchens and living rooms benefit from livelier energy and warmer, brighter colors. A rec room can be bold and snazzy.

Just for comparison, my living room is done in forest shades: green shag carpet, wood paneling partway up the walls, and furniture in browns and a deep leafy blue-green. My office has ivory walls with light wood trim, variegated carpet in gold and orange tones, and a braided wall hanging in hot colors. Blue is my favorite color, so I use it a lot, but for my work space I want a bright high energy.

  16. Congrats. It looks so good, and you have a yard!

I’m with you on the paint and the carpet though. I have floorboards right throughout my place – and warm slippers – with a built-in vac which is the next best thing to Jesus, and my family, and …

You have been so blessed, I pray you have so much fun and many happy memories in that place – once you get rid of the nightmare-inducing colors 🙂
