April 2009 will not go down in history as the BEST! MONTH! EVER! for anyone I know.
Me included.
However.
April 2009 will go down as one of the most blessed months of my life.
For every horrible thing that knocked me down this month, there was a net already in place to catch me.
You were my net.
Yes. You.
When I went in for a painful medical procedure I had a dear friend to hold my hand and tuck my drooling face into bed when it was all over.
That same friend took the moosh in as her own when I flew across the country to be with one of my best friends who lost part of her heart on April 7th.
When I got into an accident on an LA freeway I had two ladies in the car with me who turned my sobs of sadness into sobs of laughter.
When complete and all consuming emotional exhaustion punched me in the face, I had friends who called, texted, tweeted, emailed, stopped by and just showed up.
I received more bad news today about my reproductive future but it’s okay, because I have friends who believe something good is going to come of this.
While Cody is off claiming adverse possession of the Law Library until 2 am, I have my one and only sissy sitting next to me watching ER reruns all night.
Instead of having to march around my city alone in honor of Maddie, I was surrounded by 16 other women. Five of those women made me laugh so hard I forgot to breathe. Multiple times.
Just as I’m about to slip under and succumb to the extreme blergh of the entire month of April, some lady shows up in some form with inappropriate jokes, Canadian candy, professional hugging arms or words of extreme comforting wisdom.
Pardon me, but girls pretty much kick ass.
Today is my birthday. I am 27 years old. Don’t feel much like celebrating, but it is a tradition that you darlings make me a comment cake on my birthday. Layers of comments filled with the best things that happened to you in the month of April.
I know it sucked for a lot of us, but there were bright spots.
And you were mine.
Happy birthday!!!!
I have an April birthday, too, so that was the best thing that happened to me.

March/April of 2009 has been 2 of the hardest months of my life for multiple reasons – but on top of the hurt comes blessing too numerous to count.
Best thing this month – too good to write in the comment section. We’ll talk over cupcakes…

At the very beginning of this month I had a chance to hang out with YOU. I made some life-changing admissions. I’ve started opening up more. The SUN started shining. I walked for James & Jake and Maddie. I was reminded that I have the most incredible kids. I was reminded that I have the most incredible friends. And I started to kinda like myself again!

Casey, I turned 27 this month too and also like you it wasn’t the best month for me either.
I hate to be a downer on your birthday so I’ll refrain from giving you my tale of woe. I will say that I agree with you that girls kick ass. I wouldn’t have made it through this month(or the months to follow) without all the wonderful people who surround me.
I wish you all the best on your birthday and my prayer for you is that this next year will be such that on your 28th birthday you can write your own cake with celebratory prose.
Happy Birthday.

The best thing in April…
1. The awesomeness that is the Internet/Twitter. The way EVERYONE came together to support a family going through a very difficult time. It was pretty amazing.
2. Marching for Maddie – so many people of walked in her honor, including me. Wasn’t sure how I would do, but I finished and that was special.
Hope you have a HAPPY day.

Happy Happy Birthday Casey! Sounds like you met some pretty incredible people – well not just met, but met face to face for the first time… and that is so incredible. I’m excited to meet some bloggers IRL too this summer hopefully!
This month of April was a difficult one, but also so inspiring and full of amazing people and situations. This month of April really shined through to see that we all as bloggers and a community came together to support a family that some of us (me included) have never ever met… and that in itself is what makes April an incredible month.
And, the month of April – talking to a friend of yours and mine who I won’t name here but who you are opening your doors too… and that is absolutely amazing for you to do that. xoxox
Happy Birthday! 🙂 Enjoy your day today!

I had an epiphany that motherhood is my first and most important calling. I was able, for the first time in three years, to relax and not fear the future, not try to find every scrap of work out there. I am at peace with my place in the world.
For perhaps the first time ever.
Because of Maddie.

Worst thing–grief over Maddie’s passing (and no I don’t know the Spohr family at all…just through the blogosphere)
Best thing–hmmm…gettin’ my house painted…drinking wine on my porch…spending a lot more time than usual with my 19 month old daughter…but the BEST thing would have to be discovering a whole group of you “mommy bloggers” (don’t know if you like or hate that term, but I don’t know what else to call you) who I have connected with in a way that I haven’t connected with new friends in quite some time. Who know you all were out here?? And that you all sound just like me?? And that I would feel this connected to a group of strangers from reading tweets and blogs in one short month? For this, I am grateful. My life may be about to change (trying for #2, may quit job that I love b/c childcare is suckingly expensive) and knowing that you all are out here to talk to makes the thought of that a little less daunting. That’s all. Happy Birthday.

The best thing that happened to me in April was taking a week off work to spend with my kids during their Spring Break. Which during this time on a zoo trip we saw Orangutan sex and crazy looking animal ahem penises. But that wasn’t what made it great. Creepy and funny yes. But the great part was a week free from work just to hang with my kiddos. It was a stop and smell the roses kind of thing.

My favorite parts of the month? Probably my Dad’s 70th birthday celebration. All of the family was together, which is rare, and we had a blast. All of the grandkids, ages ranging 6-15 put on a concert for my dad and I’ve never seen him so happy.
Other favorite part of April? Meeting up with Casey and other blogger moms and marching for Maddie. Bittersweet because it was a sad occasion, but wonderful to see so many loving and giving moms taking part in a great cause and doing something for someone most had never even met.

You know, your birthday is a day to celebrate YOU being around for so-and-so many years, not necessarily for you to celebrate the goodness of the year or day itself.
And I’ll tell you this, it has been a pretty awful month, for pretty much everyone I “know” online and for me personally.
One of the things that has lifted ME up through this month is coming over here to this site. Whether it’s being glad that I don’t have to have a ‘scopy (or getting to feel like Part Of The Cool Bloggers Club by sending that pinata ichc about it), glad that Heather & Mike have a friend like you, getting all nostalgic for places in Indy by seeing your march photos, being made to smile by your sillies here and on twitter, or simply being given something to think about, you’ve helped me make it through this month.
And I have to add, that didn’t spring up just in this month (well, the comfort for the bad stuff did)… since I had run across your blog many moons ago and been lurking, I already “knew” you well enough to know I should come over here when I needed a fix.
So for me, this whole past year has really been enhanced by having you around.
Also, woot! (?) because I have finally found someone in the blogosphere that I’m older than. Which seems kind of a dumb thing to celebrate but I’ve been feeling like I’m the annoying online kid sister, following all the big kids around. And I just assumed you were older since Moosh is older than Kibwana. But your freshfaced little self places me in the MIDDLE of the age range. Yay! But wait, does that mean I’m old? Hm…
Anyhow, so, Happy Birthday – we are all happy you got borned today. Especially me. 🙂

BTW, as a side note rent the movie “Into the Wild” I’ll warn you now, it’s rated R and has nudity as in nudists of the hippie variety. But that aside, it is very amazing and can be life changing.
