Checking off Several of the Deadly Sins.

So there’s this thing I want to talk about.

But I don’t. Because I like you and I don’t want you to not like me because of the fact that you’re human.

Now if it were ten years ago and I didn’t like you so much (which would have most likely been the case given that I was a mean person) I would have already told you, rubbed it in your face and sealed it with lacquer.

When I was pregnant and barfing up my intestines women would look at me, tsk tsk and let me know HOW GLAD THEY WERE THAT THEY WEREN’T ME.

Thanks.

However, after I had given birth and came back to work with a 28″ waist and size 4 jeans all I heard was “I HATE YOU YOU LUCKY DUCK.”

Really?

Barfing your brains out is now considered lucky? Bring on the lucky toilet seat and I’ll display it proudly on my desk.

I would imagine the lame anxiety I’m feeling is similar to close friends of mine who tell me that they are pregnant. Or millionaires.

Here goes.

In exactly two weeks I will be flown to NYC at the expense of HP because of a review I have been doing on this little lovely. I will be put up in a swanky hotel on Times Square for three nights. I will have the opportunity to attend fashion week and a private party at Vivienne Tam’s boutique.

If I were not myself I’d hate myself too.

We humans, we’re such inherently jealous beings.

I can admit that I have watched other bloggers go on cruises, vacations, getaways, to private parties and receive swag that would blow anyone’s mind. And I fully admit to thinking “WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT HER?” or “I GET MORE TRAFFIC THAN HER.” or “I WOULD HAVE BEEN SUCH A BETTER CHOICE FOR THAT.”

Guilty as charged.

Am I ashamed?

Yes.

I was a jerk to think those things. I would have never wanted someone to think those things about me if anything spectacular were to ever happen to me. So I stopped being such a wench and started celebrating with others when they had reason to celebrate.

And then this opportunity came to me. An absolute dream come true. Remember how I feel about NYC?

And wouldn’t you believe it, I went poking around on the internet a couple of nights ago and found more bloggers getting things that I wasn’t. And the jealousy started to sink it’s teeth into my brain again.

I am so far from perfect it’s not even funny.

Blessed? Yes.

Grateful? Not as much as I should be.

Perfect? *insert manical laughter here*

So you’re not perfect either, right? *nervous giggle*

  1. Knowing what you went through during your pregnancy would never had made me utter those words – even though you being so damn thin after would have pissed me off. But that’s MY issue with ME not being thin, not with YOU being thin!!
And you getting to go to NYC? That’s fracking awesome! So when you start to feel envious of other people getting more than you? Think of ME – I don’t get ANYTHING!!! hehe

  2. It’s so totally human to be inherently jealous of such things. I’m always jealous that you have the moosh and some of the neat opportunities you get (Oh and your HAIR and CAMERA)…

But I’m also thankful for things I have that you don’t… like a skunk. πŸ™‚

Until (and note the word I chose) you have another child, you’re more mobile with a preschooler AND you’ve been able to do some travelling. You clearly have made some amazing blogger friends. Your photography is progressing nicely.

…So, just thought you’d need another note from yet another admirer!

  4. Good lord no I’m not perfect. I am admittedly guilty of a little bit of that jealousy.

  5. I’m new to your blog and I know I’m in the right place because I am often bitten by the jealous bug. What I try to do when I find myself turning green with envy is to think about why I am jealous of that person and that if what they have is something I really want, then I’m going to go and get it. Dammit!

  6. Good for you! I hope you have an excellent time. As an aside, I remember reading somewhere that jealousy was about you and envy was about the other person. I always try to keep that in mind, and remind myself to be envious, not jealous. Or be neither, because that’d be nice, too.

Are you done laughing yet? I love you even more now. I am constantly amazed at you and please don’t take offense when I run from you at BlissDom because yah, I am so not in your sphere of awesomeness. Yah. so. um…..

I saw your Vivenne Tam review on your blog and I immediately thought: Damn, that is fabulous. Casey is perfect for that. and you are, hell yes I was a bit jealous, but you know what. You’ve earned that and you’ve earned the respect and power that you’re now receiving. You inspire, you touch and you are a powerful writer. Hell yes, I wish I was getting those goodies that you are, but those have been earned and who am I to expect something to be handed to me just because I want it.

Ok. going to crawl back to my corner now πŸ˜‰

Oh, and I absolutely LOVE that little laptop. I saw it in a store in Dec in black and fell in love with it. It’s so small and so cute. If I had the extra cash I would have gotten it already for sure.

Thanks for the reminder to be thankful and have a super time.

i think it’s awesome that you’re getting to do all that kick ass stuff! do i wish i got the same invite? of course!!!!! but i would never NOT want you to have it.. know what i mean? πŸ™‚

  16. Whenever I hear about trips like yours, I find myself doing the blogger benefit jealousy checklist:

Do I have a higher technorati score? check
    more subscribers? check
more traffic? who knows, but I’d guess about the same

AND YET I HAVE NO TRIPS. BAH. BAH, I SAY.

It’s like being excluded from the cool chick clique. I can pretend like I don’t care, but I SO. DO.

I won’t even apologize, I’m too jealous too apologize. When does the FREE STUFF gravy train head in my direction?

    Pffft.

As for jealous? The swag is lovely, and I am tremendously grateful to have won one contest ever (yes, yours; I have NEVER won ANYTHING before that) and to have had some great free shoes (sorry MomoFali) — but I can’t begrudge other people the trips and the big swag because I am sure they work harder at this than I do.

This is not to say that I am not a person with envies, but rather that they are in different arenas. My envy tends towards people who are better writers than I, whose houses are cleaner, who have more patience with childish idiosyncrasies, or who have the book contract I so desperately want.

  18. As a matter of fact, I am perfect. (Besides the brain and boob and the crazy all those other extremely imperfect things.)

I am also VERY jealous. Very very jealous. I was in NYC 2 weeks ago, but the graduate school interview was much less glamorous than fashion week. Or so I’d assume. And if it wasn’t, then fashion week is so blown out of proportion in the media.

But your trip sounds amazing, and so much fun. And I’m not actually jealous.

Unless you get a book deal while you’re there. All bets are off, then. Even though I would send hearty and sincere congratulations.
