Hot: Day 8-Pee-eww

I haven’t showered for three days. No particular reason, just never really crossed my mind as something urgent that needed to be done. I’m considering taking it as personal challenge to see how long I can go without a shower, to see who would have the balls to say something to me.

Nah, not really. I’ll probably go shower after I finish writing this.

So riddle me this. Technically you’re not supposed to wash your hair everyday. Especially if it’s color treated. So I don’t. But come day two most of the time I feel greasy. I don’t look greasy, I just feel greasy. And I feel like I smell greasy. Yet no one has ever said “WASH YOUR HAIR MUCH DISGUSTO GIRL?” Needless to say three days without a shower? No part of me is hot right now.

So how often do you wash your hair? Do you feel not so hair commercial wonderful the next day but just ignore it because you’re “supposed” to wash your hair every other day? C’mon, how many of you have roots that are feeling not so squeaky clean most of the time (maybe at this very moment) but have the rest of us fooled?

I now feel like a dirty dishrag. A shower has just become an absolute.

Discuss.

  1. I color my hair along with highlights…and I am a pretty greasy/stinky girl if I don’t shower every single day.

I wash my hair every day, but after shampooing and conditioning, I take a small (maybe three peas?) amount of conditioner and run it through my hair (just not the scalp) and leave it in.

I got this tip from a fabulous hairdresser in Atlanta and I swear by it.

  2. I wash my hair every morning and if I don’t, my head itches and I can feel the oil oozing down my hair. I often wonder if I got into the habit of washing every other day, would it make a difference in the way my head feels? I have short, very fine hair that shows every imperfection, so I like to keep it superfresh and clean:)

Also, I’ve gotten to the point where I never fully wake up if I don’t shower in the morning. And who wants to be around Ms. Grumpy all day long?

  3. This makes me think of my all girls high school. People really would go for days without washing their hair, shaving their legs, etc. Almost like – who can be the grossest? No boys around, so who cares. I don’t remember being an enthusiastic participant – but I’ve never washed my hair EVERY day. It tends to look better on the second day. Less pooofy.

  4. As the hairdressers in the world let out a collective GASP, I wash my hair everyday.

But ONLY because it’s curly, and I don’t feel like sportin’ the ‘fro in the office everyday. When I straighten it, however, my hair actually looks better the longer I go without washing it.

My friend does hair and told me you can buy special powder to put on the greasy spots of your hair…supposedly you shake it on and POOF! There goes the grease.

  5. I wash my hair every other day – sometimes every third day – but I usually wet and then condition my hair daily. I have very fine hair and my scalp used to be so oily I had cradles cap on a routine basis. (TMI?) But I get my hair colored red, so I can’t wash it every day. I found that with the right shampoo/conditioner I can skip a day and be fine.

Apparently my scalp really did quit producing so much oil once I quit stripping it out daily. I used to think my stylist was making that up!

  6. Dude, I am dreadlocking my hair right now. It takes patience, work, and a whole lot of ickyness tolerance. Especially for a white girl. That boho-chill look takes EFFORT, seriously. I haven’t washed my hair in five days. (The rest of me? yes.)

  7. I have naturally curly hair and can’t wash every day. Straight-haired girls couldn’t understand….

Every three days. Sometimes every other day if the “do” turned out bad or if I get up a little earlier than normal.

  8. bah, who makes these rules? I wash my hair every single day, no matter what. If I don’t, it’s a total grease-pit and disgusting and argh I cannot even stand thinking about it. I don’t normally color my hair, but I’ve had highlights now and then, and I still wash daily. I kind of envy those who can go without it, because it would save me sooo much time, heh.

  9. I wash my hair everyday. If a rare exception occurs it is through no fault of my own. I hate not being clean. I used to (12-25yrs old) shower every morning and every night – washing and conditioning both times. I only stopped because I had a second child and started to think about the waste I was causing. Now if I have to miss a day or wait until a few hours after waking I feel gross.

  10. I wash my hair daily, but I also swim daily and I want to get the chlorine out of my hair. I’ve heard that if you brush your hair really well at night, you won’t have to wash it the next day, but I haven’t tried it.

There are days I’d like to just shave it all off and wear a wig.

  11. I usually wash my hair every 3 days if I straighten it. If it is curly 1-2 days. But sometimes I am lazy and it will go for 4 days. But I always wash it before Church on Sunday. I usually have a funny hair smell by day 2 or 3. My hair doesn’t get really greasy until day 3 or 4. I have low oil production on my head.

  12. Everyday. but I’ve never color-treated my hair. My hair is still a virgin when it comes to dyes. Also, if I don’t wash my hair, it DOES become greasy, and then my skin really badly breaks out. If I go more than 24 hours without washing my hair, the roots start looking WET. And since that grosses me out I wash my hair every evening.

    probably TMI, sorry

  13. Okay, so I know some guys who all had a contest to see who could go the longest without taking a shower. They decided to start this on the first week of their senior year.

The loser had to let ALL of the other boys throw their OWN FECES on him.

Nobody made it past three days.

The the loser really had poop thrown on him.

Sad thing is all these guys were super hott…and yet I could never look at them the same after this.

  16. I definitely only wash my hair every other day otherwise it is horribly dry. But on day two it is greasy at the roots with dry ends and (YUCK!) time to wash. I have really wavy hair and I have also done the shampoo only once and week and condition only the rest of the time.

  18. I shampoo and shower every single day. I also color my hair. I have very healthy hair and all modestly aside it looks great. It doesn’t look as good if I don’t wash it every day. By the end of the second day it looks decidedly not good.

  19. I wash my hair every 3-4 days.

It used to be every other day but I got sick and showering became really difficult.

Plus thanks to the treatment for the sick I’ve lost roughly half my hair and I expect the rest to go within the next three months. So soon it won’t matter anyway!

  20. I started the Curly Girl method that Kate talked about…you can google it if you want to know more about it. I found that my hair felt greasier the next day if I used shampooo rather than using conditioner only (you have to scrub your head if you do this). I think that shampoo actually triggers your scalp to produce more oil (it’s a conspiracy by the shampoo companies). My husband, who has greasy & straight hair, tried “washing” with conditioner only and has had a lot of success. I couldn’t believe it, but his hair is less greasy the next day than it was when he was using shampoo.

  21. I quite washing my hair with shampoo a month ago. I use baking soda and my hair is good, and very curly, everyone is asking about it, but I don’t want to tell for fear of them disliking me. Strange good side effect, I used to break out on my scalp a lot that has completely quit. I have to wash the body most every day though, I don’t want to be a total hippie.

  22. Well, considering I’m a freelancer and work from home, I shower far less than when I worked in an office in NYC =) But I have the same conundrum: I feel so greasy if I don’t wash my hair every day, but I know it’s not good for me…so I compromise and go like every day and a half =)

  23. My hair is super greasy as is my skin. I wash my hair every day. I have to. But I do use shampoo and conditioner especially for color treated hair for my highlighted blond hair.

I guess I’m just too young yet to go without a hair wash every day- I’m like a freaking oily teenager. We’re the same age, btw.

  24. Every other day – I usually wear it up on the second day, though, because it’s straight and tends to show a little greasiness by the end of the day. I also use Batiste dry shampoo sometimes, which gives it a cool texture. My hair is happier than when I washed every day.

  26. My hair is dry, dry, dry! I wash with shampoo only when it starts to get oily at the roots which is maybe once a week. My hair is curly though so every day I rinse and scrub with conditioner (lots of conditioner)

I have to shower daily though otherwise my skin itches.

  27. I wash my hair daily, except for Saturdays. If I’m not leaving the house, I’m not bothering with a shower. And even if I do leave the house, it’s to go to Walmart. I’m not having a shower to go to Walmart.

I don’t care what “they” say, I wash my hair daily because otherwise it feels yucky.

  28. I used to be religious about washing my hair every day, but then I realized (with two kids and one on the way) that taking the time to dry and straighten my locks was taking up TOO MUCH TIME. So now I wash every 2 to 3 days (although I’ve gone as long as 5 days and no one has said “ew, wash your hair”)So, there you have it, you aren’t the only one walking around unshowered with greasy hair πŸ˜‰

  31. What do I have to add at Number 93? I guess it should be something really shameful, huh? I only wash my hair every few days. I can (and sadly have) gone five days before my hair looks bad or slightly dirty. When I was my hair more than that, it get very visibly angry with me. When we do dirty stuff on the weekends, (Please. I mean yard work.) I end up washing it a lot more and then I have Poof Head. It’s scary. (But please let it be noted that I don’t stink. I shower when I get sweaty or whatever – just on a general basis, it’s every couple/few days.)

Thirdly, it give me an excuse to wear my totally awesome, hippy-chick-like head wraps. And fourthly, and most importantly, I’m just too damn lazy to lift my arms and suds up more often. Seriously.
