jealousy, envy and bitterness. WHEE!

Yes. There are people who are sad they are not at BlogHer.

Yes. There are people who are out of their minds with jealousy that they are not at BlogHer.

Yes. There are people at BlogHer who are having the time of their life.

Yes. There are people who are at BlogHer who are hating every minute of it.

Lest you think the talk of BlogHer will end after all the planes have left and the suitcases have been unpacked you’d be wrong.

There’s going to be talk of lifelong friendships, there will be pictures, there will be stories. There will also be talk of self pity. Talk of cliques. Talk of outcasting. Talk of no fun.

If you’re not having fun. I’m sorry, but it’s your fault.

I stood on a stage of a swanky San Francisco DANCE club and announced into a microphone “Ladies, it’s time to DANCE.” There were less than a dozen of you that came down and danced who weren’t already forced on the floor by me.

Why not?

Most of you are on vacation. Most of you had nothing more to do this morning than get up and hang out with a thousand of the most amazing women I’ve ever met. So what if you don’t have rhythm? Who cares if you look like a wounded mammal when you dance? We already bare our souls to each other through words, why are so many of you so shy to share yourself in person? I gave everyone a personal invitation to dance with me. I said hi to everyone to came down. I have been trying to smile at everyone, say hi to anyone who will say hi to me.

No posts have shown up today saying “don’t read that moosh lady SHE DANCES TOO MUCH.” I had fun. WHOO. I had fun. And. AND! I was completely sober.

bustin' loose.

Thank you to everyone who boogied with me. Thank you to everyone who has said hi to me, or who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. You are all fantastic. I’m honored and humbled that I’ve been able to be in your presence this weekend.

So please, you have 24 hours left. Have fun. These experiences will never happen again. There are so many people who wish they were here. If you can’t have fun for yourself, have fun for them.

  2. Wahoo! I hope to be dancing with you next year! I’m in the “mildly jealous” category myself. We are traveling so much this summer as a family, it’s really hard for me to complain.

    Much.

Thanks for the comment on my post. I hope my last two posts don’t sound bitter. Gah. Not my style at all. I’m just trying to have a little commiserating fun with others who decided not to go this year.

I’ll be looking for more pictures!

  3. I’m not normally a big dancer, but yes, if I was at BlogHer, you can bet I’d be getting down on the dance floor.

I so wish I was able to go this year…but I’m already planning on it for my 30th birthday present.

Everyone I’ve read seems like they’re having a blast, though I agree with you that if they’re not, it’s of their own doing.

Thank you for letting us (well, me, anyway) live vicariously through you until I can experience the wonderfulness for myself.

  4. By the time the dancing began, I was back home tucking my daughter into bed (not before I tucked into all that FREE FOOD). But I would definitely have found a tailfeather or two to shake, had I been there.

Casey, the honor and humility is all mine: what an immense gift you gave everyone at the Community Keynote. Immense. Life-expanding. Wall-stretching. Possibility-opening. Really.

Dance the dance of joy, sister! If joy is earned (and you sure reminded us that a good portion of it is), then you have earned a lifetime of it. Thank you.

  7. I LOVE to dance. LOVE it. And I can never get anyone to dance with me either. I couldn’t be a BlogHer this year because of some little teaching contract thingy, my graduate students expect me in the classroom, yadda yadda yadda…but I’m one of those who will proudly stand up and say: Dance on, my sisters! Dance for me! And with any luck, better scheduling, and better finances, next year I’ll come stand next to you at that mike and urge everyone else to join us dancing too. Good for you!

  8. i had a blast dancing with you. though i’m still a little embarrassed that a) i didn’t recognize you immediately, and b) when i realized who you were i practically shouted in your face, “OH! I HAVE TO TALK TO YOU!” but still, you were awesome, and merely shouted back, “OK!” like talking to me was the funnest thing in the world you could imagine doing right then. and then we danced. soul train style. aw yeah. 😛

And I’m thoroughly enjoying myself. Especially when you’re around!

    You’re the best! Mwah!

I have vowed to my self and now to you to go to Macy’s tonight and do my damndest to have fun. To get the nerve to say hi to you instead of walking away too shy to do it.

  12. next year i will be there dancing with you! for sure. this year…well this year i had to settle for a trip to france to see my best friend. i chose that over blogher. and a trip to france from turkey seemed more feasible. no jet lag. a trip to america for a few days would have probably killed me! trying to get over jet lag, listen to seminars, and party…yep it would have killed me for sure!

  15. I get that some people are shy and uncomfortable in new or strange situations, but I wish they understand that you MAKE your own situation. People only respond to what you put out there. I am ALL about the get-to-know, I can’t wait to rock the ’09. Count me in, I’ll be the chick on the dance floor next to you, shamelessly humiliating myself for the fun, glory and Flickr memories.

  18. dude, how did i miss where you were dancing — well, unless it was friday night, because my ass was too busy trying desperately to get some clothes over it to make it to said party, which, i know, ohai hippo-critter, i have the audacity to give you fashion assvice in the coat section at macy’s but can’t put a fucking ensemble together for my own self, which = pathetic and rather rude, and please allow me to provide the even lamer excuse of DRUNK, but srsly. if i’d made it to friday’s party? i would’ve totally danced with you.

  19. Well hell. At least I can blame my lack of dancing on the food poisoning I got from the lobby’s ham sandwich. Far too risky to shimmy after that.

Likely you will scramble as far over into your corner of the internet as you can after I tell you this, but here goes.

I was randomly combing through Flickr with “Blogher08” as the search. Saw the awesome photos of you and your friends dancing. Then noticed this picture.

    dancing casey

(Here’s where you get scared of me) I totally think that’s an orb by you. By your skirt. You know, one of those floaty spirit orbs. I think someones looking out for you and is happy you’re dancing.
