Bawlbaby Vomit Bags.

Ah man, look what I did, I complained about my bunk lady parts and made the pregnant ladies feel bad.

Bad infertile blogger, bad, BAD. Picking on the emotionally sensitive knocked up puke fountains.

Here’s my dirty little secret though.

My pregnancy was HELL. You know how I was fat? And now I’m not?

Guess how I lost all that weight?

I puked. And puked like a SUPER STAR.

I puked more than you and you and you. COMBINED.

I got pregnant at around 170 lbs.

I went into the hospital at 40 weeks weighing 150 lbs.

I went home from the hospital with a baby at 120 lbs. in size four jeans. (HAH!)

But…

I spent hours a week with IV’s in my arm.

I racked up a $2,839 bill on Zofran alone, AFTER INSURANCE.

I puked eight to ten times a day, every day.

My milk never came in because I was so emaciated by the time I was done.

I even spent three days involuntarily committed to a psych ward. (this post is coming, and it’s going to be a hard one.)

AND YOU BETTER BELIEVE I BITCHED AND MOANED.

Because guess what? Even though I worked SO HARD to get knocked up and I wanted it SO BAD, I don’t like to puke.

And I really don’t like to puke multiple times a day.

So I complained. A lot. Just ask Cody.

“Cody, did she complain a lot when she was pregnant?”
“DUDE, She didn’t shut up.”

Again, I rely on Megan’s post about the hierarchy of suffering.

Yes, someone is always going to have it worse.

There are women who have died from the condition that I had.

But that doesn’t make my situation not suck for me.

Keep on keeping on with the morning sickness talk.

Because if, and when, I ever get pregnant again I’ll puke you all under the table AND I’ll post pictures.

‘Cause that’s how I roll.

  1. That totally and completely sucks.

I had morning sickness with both pregnancies, but I think it was pretty average. Though I had kidney stones, which I refused to medicate, with the first and that was worse than the delivery.

I would take kidney stones to your puking scenario. I hate throwing up.

The loveliest surprise with my second round of morning sickness this time was that I would pee every time I would throw up. Classic. Got to love the mother’s body.

I recently had food poisoning, and while throwing up and simultaneously peeing on the floor, I thought to myself, “No way in hell I’m going to get pregnant again. I won’t be able to do this.”

God bless ya, girl. God bless ya.

  2. With my first son, I vomited so much during my first trimester, I was pretty much hospitalized the entire time. Then, in my last trimester, I was hospitalized again for blood pressure issues, etc.

I think I vomited more than you…but not by much. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s nice to be able to commiserate about the vomiting with someone though, so thank you!

  3. Oh my goodness, did people actually complain??

Way I figure it: It’s your blog, you can complain about whatever you want (or don’t want) whenever you like. And if you’re puking so much it’s making you get hospitalized? Darn right your readers want to hear about it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. another hyperemesis sufferer checking in here- I totally understand what you’re talking about.

I have track marks all over my hands and arms from all the IVs.

And, I hate to say this- but it happened with my second pregnancy as well- the good thing was, I knew exactly what was going on so I knew not to wait to deal with it- made things go more smoothly, but I was still worshipping the porcelin god at least four times a day.

You may really appreciate this blog post of mine: http://lifeaslou.blogsome.com/2005/08/09/because-sometimes-you-just-gotta-share/

  5. Yep – I was sick-o-rama – but you puked more than me.

And good for you for not feeling bad about what you say – it’s your feelings and you are allowed to have them no matter what!!

  6. Yeah! The puke is worth it. Complaining about it is all that gets you through the next day because at least then you’re doing something, and not hiding in a corner to shrivel up and die from how horrible it makes you feel. I’d wager I didn’t have it as bad as you- but I did puke several times a day for 5 months with my first and so I declare myself qualified to say ‘I know what you mean!’

  7. Dude, can’t we all just get along. We might have to puke together in the same toilet one day.

And I have no problem telling you and the world that you had it worse than I. You win! I’ll make you a crown. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Dang girl! You sound like me! Zofran was my savior, except it didn’t actually totally work until week 16. So from week 5 to week 16, i was a vomitorium. Always in the hospital. I lost 18 pounds… in the first trimester.. there was nothing left to lose after that. I went home in jeans that I couldn’t fit into before I got pregnant!!
You sharing your hardships and your experiences will help others. I find myself feeling guilty at times because it was easy for me to get pregnant, but I know that God has his reasons for things so I pray for understanding. I pray that I can help others, and I pray for those who struggle.
You’re sharing touches more than you know.

  9. Oh, that’s awful! I only puked a couple of times with #1 and not at all with #2. Instead, during pregnancy #2 I got all sorts of rare ailments. Like a weird skin infection that made my legs black and blue (and they felt like they’d been run over by a car). Oh, and one of my ear drums exploded and I was deaf in that ear for over a month.

I would wager that when you conceive again it will be different (at least I hope so). It’s a good thing these kids are worth it – I’m crossing my fingers the stork comes to visit you soon. You are just the kind of mama who should have more babies. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. oh my god! i’m sorry for you what you went through. I puked alot through my all my first trimesters (i’m in my 2nd trimester of baby 3) and in Canada, it’s a drug called Diclectin that helped alot. but it seems like nothing compared to your experience. no man will ever realise what we go through to have children.

  12. And to think I thought I was miserable for not being able to get out of bed hardly from 2-16 weeks from the severe nausea, but it sounds like a walk in the park compared to you! Why does “go and replenish the earth” have to be so gosh darn awful to do sometimes?

  16. (Ducking for cover)

Four pregnancies and I never once threw up. I cannot believe how lucky that is, especially after reading your story, Chicky’s story, etc.

But please, please know that I suffer at the hands of a pair of eye-rolling pubescents, a borderline juvenile delinquent five year-old, and a sixteen month old who still isn’t walking.

    (still ducking)

I didn’t have what you had, but I DID throw up each and every day of my pregnancy, from the second month on, up to AND INCLUDING while I was IN LABOR. Good times!

  18. I feel your pain. 5 years to get pregnant with the first, three years to get pregnant with the second. Two times a week IV’s and Zofran. Sucks, sucks, sucks. Fortunately I was healthy after all that and we were my babies. So things could always be worse, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck!!! Two months into my second pregnancy and i was like, “Why did we do this again???”
Some part of you really believes it will be better, easier, and that’s why we have more than one ๐Ÿ˜‰

  20. Ick! Casey, I had know idea that you went through SO much to get your PERFECT moosh! I knew you were sick (yes, that’s an understatement!) and had to do the whole sucky Clomid thing, but HELLO, you really went through HELL!

I’m rootin’ for those lady parts of yours and I’m sure, after all the crap they’ve put you through, that they’ll play nice when you get knocked up again. If not, I’ll give them a good talkin’ to. Um, however that works! Ok, weird. LOL!

Seriously. When I was trying SO hard to get pregnant with Chloe I swear I saw pregnant ladies EVERYWHERE! It sucked! I actually cried in public.

Now, are you going to visit me when you get your toosh here? Oh, Your Dad and Colleen sent us a baby gift! SO SWEET! Still have to send them a thank you card! LOVES!

  21. Zofran rocks. I lost some serious weight while I was pregnant with Hollis too. And he had IUGR as a result. Man, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Of course, it all came right back within like, a week.

If it helps to know, the second pregnancy was MUCH easier. I still puked a couple of times a day but I could actually function, you know?
