giving hope away.

(Comments closed, winner of the giveaway is Jessica from @mommasgonecity, congrats lady and thanks for all of your comments, if you haven’t read through them you really should. Inspiring words.)

With perfect timing, two of my dearest friends sent me this necklace from their etsy shop. The R House Couture.

Be Still Necklace

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev’ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: The hour is hast’ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Hymn #124 from the LDS Hymnbook

They sent me another one to give away to you.

Hope Necklace

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. From the 13 Articles of Faith originally written by Joseph Smith.

Their shop is full of inspirational necklaces with simple words such as “fear not” “all is well” “courage” “grace” and “faith.” The idea came to help pay for court costs Mrs. R has incurred while fighting to keep her little boy. Each purchase includes cards from couples hoping to add to their families through adoption. The idea was to make gifts for both birth and adoptive mothers. I however think they are perfect gifts for any woman who needs a boost.

Like me.

I’m already a huge fan of buying handmade. I’m an even bigger fan of  buying handmade to help keep a family together. Please look at their shop and keep it in mind as a gift for those women in your life who carry so much. They are more than happy to produce custom orders.

To win the custom “HOPE” necklace from The R House Couture and me simply tell me what quote, scripture, hymn, song or saying that gets you through difficult times. I will pick one random comment Wednesday October 7 at midnight. Open to anyone in the world. Because we all need hope.

  1. Wasn’t expecting a post about a giveaway for a beautiful necklace to make me ball like a baby.

    There are two songs that really speak to my heart when I hear them they normally get repeated over and over and over…you get the idea.

    “Be My Escape” by Relient K This part always makes me cry
    “I fought You for so long
    I should have let You in
    Oh how we regret those things we do
    And all I was trying to do was save my own skin
    But so were You

    So were You”

    And “God will lift up Your Head” by Jars of Clay It makes me weep and lift up my hands and just praise Him.

    xoxo my friend. Thank you for being you. So true to yourself. You are a pillar of strength, even if you don’t always feel it.

    Darn, crying again.

  2. I have several:
    Let us be still so that we might hear the whisper of God.

    This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.

    I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds my tomorrows.

    And this one runs through my head at least once a day, but is very rarely spoken…
    Put your big girl panties on and just deal with it.

  7. I lean on this verse what seems like all of the time.

    I have a son and a family, and a wonderful God. I have to have hope.

    And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. – Romans 5:5

  8. I love the verse in the Doctrine and Covenants- 14:7-

    And if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.

    I think of this scripture when I’m not sure how I’m going to get through the day, let alone get all 5 of my kids through it, too! It puts things into perspective and helps me remember that, even with all the tough times, it’s worth enduring so that I can be with my family forever. All I have to do is keep the commandments and love my family?? Makes my part seem easy.

    I also LOVE the song “I Feel My Savior’s Love”

    I feel my Savior’s love,
    In all the world around me
    His Spirit warms my soul
    Through everything I see
    He knows I will follow Him,
    Give all my life to Him
    I feel my Savior’s love
    The love He freely gives me.

  9. My grandmother has always been an inspiration to me. Last year, I made a surprise visit to her and my grandfather (we rarely get to see each other since my family has always lived on the west coast/pacific islands and they are in Tennessee).

    At the end of my visit, she gave me her bible. While this was so very special in itself, on the inside cover she noted the scripture Pslam 91:11, which reads,

    “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

    Especially this past year, I have been coming back to this passage for strength and the reminder that although I may feel alone, there is always someone there to watch over me.

    This always helps me remember what my goal is- to be with my family forever. Not much is asked of me- keep the commandments and love my kids and my husband. I can do that!

    I also love the song “I Feel My Savior’s Love”.

    I feel my Savior’s love,
    In all the world around me

  15. Wow, what a wonderful and inspirational giveaway. One of the hymns which always touches me and which plays through my head quite frequently is “I Surrender All”.

    All to Jesus I surrender;
    all to him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust him,
    in his presence daily live.
    I surrender all, I surrender all,
    all to thee, my blessed Savior,
    I surrender all.

    Just the first verse, but the rest can easily be Googled!

What I’ve been trying to remind myself through the tough times is: “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.” One day I’m sure that everything that has happened will make sense…

  18. It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.
    Psalm 18:32-36

    I had to write this down and look at it every day when I wa in the hospital while placing my son. Now that I’m attempting to get contact from my son’s adoptive parents, this is the one part of scripture that reminds me that no matter how empty I am, I will never be truly alone.

    When life seems to overwhelm me. I remember Psalms 46:10. “Be still and know that I am God.” I am one who forgets often to “Be still” and it’s effective at giving me pause to better hear what God is truly asking of me.

    “If I could tell the world just one thing

    And not to worry
    ‘Cause worry is wasteful and useless
    In times like these

    I won’t be made useless
    Won’t be idle with despair
    I will gather myself around my faith
    For light does the darkness most fear

    My hands are small I know

    But they’re not yours, they are my own
    and I am never broken”

    And! Even though I’m not a member of a 12 step-program (yet), for some reason I always recite the Serenity Prayer.

    God grant me the serenity
    To accept the things I cannot change;
    Courage to change the things I can;
    And wisdom to know the difference.
