giving hope away.

(Comments closed, winner of the giveaway is Jessica from @mommasgonecity, congrats lady and thanks for all of your comments, if you haven’t read through them you really should. Inspiring words.)

With perfect timing, two of my dearest friends sent me this necklace from their etsy shop. The R House Couture.

Be Still Necklace

Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev’ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.

Be still, my soul: The hour is hast’ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Hymn #124 from the LDS Hymnbook

They sent me another one to give away to you.

Hope Necklace

We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. From the 13 Articles of Faith originally written by Joseph Smith.

Their shop is full of inspirational necklaces with simple words such as “fear not” “all is well” “courage” “grace” and “faith.” The idea came to help pay for court costs Mrs. R has incurred while fighting to keep her little boy. Each purchase includes cards from couples hoping to add to their families through adoption. The idea was to make gifts for both birth and adoptive mothers. I however think they are perfect gifts for any woman who needs a boost.

Like me.

I’m already a huge fan of buying handmade. I’m an even bigger fan of  buying handmade to help keep a family together. Please look at their shop and keep it in mind as a gift for those women in your life who carry so much. They are more than happy to produce custom orders.

To win the custom “HOPE” necklace from The R House Couture and me simply tell me what quote, scripture, hymn, song or saying that gets you through difficult times. I will pick one random comment Wednesday October 7 at midnight. Open to anyone in the world. Because we all need hope.

  1. During THE WAIT, I clung to
    Habakkuk 2:3
    “But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!”

    (same as coley’s, above- but it really is my favorite. It’s just beautiful, and so reassuring, isn’t it?)

  7. Your necklace reminds me of this inspirational lyric:

    My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. …
    On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.

    I came out of a childhood faith of works, and found the freedom talked about by Paul in Galatians that is solely built on what Jesus did for me…what only He could do.

    The necklace would be the remind of true hope found in the shed blood of Christ and his wonderful resurrection; a resurrection available for those who put on Christ rather than all the other stuff.

  8. When I was pregnant with my son, I started spotting. I was so worried about losing my sweet baby that I had waited so long for. I saw a picture at my mother in laws house that I had never noticed before. It said prayer changes things. I remember that all day every day, and my son is 18 months old, happy and healthy.

  11. My favorite right now was from an email forward. It talks about how sometimes in raising children we feel invisible. We are simply a ride, a meal, a pair of hands. My favorite line from it is this: “As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we’re
    doing it right.”

    And it makes me okay with being invisible sometimes.

  14. I had 13 years of catholic school but none of it really stuck with me. One quote serves as my hope and inspiration, “”Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

    It’s my goal to try to have as many moments that take my breath away as possible. I can only push myself to do that if I keep going and I keep hope in my heart.

    I really hope I win this, I never win anything!

    But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

    Psalm 121
    1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
    where does my help come from?

    2 My help comes from the LORD,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

    3 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;

    4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

    5 The LORD watches over you—
    the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

    6 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

    7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;

    8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

    What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
    O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
    All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

    When I went to boot camp, I was given a small Bible and it had that hymn printed in it. I would often sing it to myself, especially the first few (hard) weeks. My faith definitely got me through that difficult time.

  30. The hymn that helps me the most right now is “I need the every hour.” This is so true of my life right now. After struggling with infertility for 5 years, my pregnancy resulting from IVF ended in a stillbirth of my baby boy at 38 weeks. It was such a blow. We sang this song at the graveside. It runs through my head frequently as I miss my precious boy and as we start the whole process over to have another child.

    He lives to silence all my fears.
    He lives to wipe away my tears.
    He lives to calm my troubled heart.
    He lives all blessings to impart.

    …oh sweet the joy this sentence gives– I know that My Redeemer lives.

    My favorite hymn is Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me.

    Jesus, Savior, pilot me
    Over life’s tempestuous sea;
    Unknown waves before me roll,
    Hiding rock and treach’rous shoal.
    Chart and compass came from thee;
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

    As a mother stills her child,
    Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
    Boist’rous waves obey thy will
    When thou say’st to them, “Be still!”
    Wondrous Sov’reign of the sea,
    Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

    When at last I near the shore,
    And the fearful breakers roar
    ’Twixt me and the peaceful rest,
    Then, while leaning on thy breast,
    May I hear thee say to me,
    “Fear not; I will pilot thee.”

    My favorite scripture is “Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.” (D&C 6:36).

    I’ve also been listening to the song “Our Hope Endures” by Natalie Grant.

    Fighting infertility (and illness) has been a long, exhausting battle, the waiting can be agony. Sometimes I feel I’m only holding onto hope by a thread. But God is loving and merciful, even though I can’t see how right now, I know he is working through everything to bring good.

    You are in my thoughts and prayers.
