HP Magic Giveaway.

Let’s say I have $6,000 worth of HP technology sitting in my living room.

Because I do.

Now let’s say that I’m going to be giving away all $6,000 worth of HP technology that is sitting in my living room TO ONE PERSON.

Let’s pretend that one person could be YOU.

Because it could be.

Seriously.

What do I call this opportunity? Magic.

That’s what sponsor HP and co sponsor Microsoft Windows Live call it too.

Yes. I am one of the 50.

moosh in indy. is lucky enough to be one of fifty blogs involved in HP’s Magic Giveaway for the holidays. 49 other blogs have been or will be reviewing and then giving away the same $6,000 package of technology. All 50 blogs will have different rules and entry guidelines, some will be in different languages. And yes, you can enter them all (but you can only win one.)

That’s right. Four computers. Oodles of other stuff. One person.

Let’s face it. The economy is crap. As much as you and your family may want, or even need a new computer, it’s just not a reality for a lot of people right now. Now imagine winning four. Maybe all you needed was one. Maybe you wanted two. What about the other two? Think about it. Who could you pass the magic on to?

A teacher? A church? An after school program? An elderly neighbor? A family who has lost everything? Someone who gives so much of themselves and never asks for anything in return? Maybe someone else who entered this giveaway and compelled you with their story.

HOW TO ENTER (these are my rules, and they only apply and qualify you for the giveaway here, at mooshinindy.com):

I want to know. Who would you share all this magic with and how would you do it?

  1. Compose a post on your own blog, telling me what you would do with $6,000 worth of the latest HP technology. Who would you share with and why? Creativity counts, but it’s not everything. I’m going to be awarding this prize package to whomever captures the magic of sharing the most. Don’t have a blog? Go ahead and compose your entry in 200 words or less and post it here in my comments section, leaving a valid email in the email field. Video entries on YouTube, posts on MySpace and Facebook will also be accepted.
  2. Somewhere in your post mention and link to HP’s Magic Giveaway along with a mention and link to this post on moosh in indy. When your post is published, leave a link to your entry, wherever it may be, with your name and valid email address in the comments section below.
  3. Contest is open NOW! and will run through 10 p.m. EST December 9th, 2008. Comments will close at 10 p.m. EST on December 9th, 2008. So get to it.
  4. That’s it.

THE NOT SO FINE PRINT:

  • My family, friends and people I know in real life are not eligible. Sorry dudes. It’s just not fair. But you are more than welcome to enter any or all of the other 49 giveaways. (Although you can only win one.)
  • Anyone who doesn’t fall into the above category, in any part of the world, is eligible to enter.
  • All taxes will be taken care of by HP.
  • You must SHARE part of the prize package with someone who isn’t you, preferably someone who doesn’t even live in your house. While I have no way to police you once the prizes leave my doorstep, I can assure you that if you don’t share, bad juju’s will follow you all the days of your life. Okay, so I can’t even promise that, just don’t be a selfish jerk okay? You’re a lucky fool if you win all this stuff. PAY IT FORWARD.
  • The winner must provide me with a real street shipping address, P.O. Boxes will not be accepted. Items you choose to share can be shipped to the person directly at no cost to you (and is actually preferred. Who doesn’t love getting magic surprises in the mail?)
  • By entering, the winner agrees to provide me, within two weeks of receipt of the prize,  a 250 word story (at least) on what happened when they shared one or more of the products. Their story will be posted on moosh in indy. at a later date. Stories from those who were surprised with the magic would also be fantastic. Pictures optional, but strongly encouraged. I won’t post any personal information without permission.
  • I have been using (reviewing, coveting, checking out) the hardware (dude, I don’t get to keep any of this stuff) but they will all be restored to factory/like new condition before I ship them.
  • I will pick and announce a winner December 9th, 2008 at 12 a.m. EST.

I will be the sole judge and my decision is final. I cannot be bought with promises of cookies, lavish riches, goods, products or services. So don’t even try. Okay, so you can try, but just know it won’t work.

  1. Hi,
I am currently doing MS by research in Computers. Currently I don’t have my own computer. I am using a system provided to me in the lab. So I am not attaching any pictures…If u want a picture of the computer I am using in my lab, I will send it…

I will do one of the following with HP Magic Giveaway.

    1) Donate 2 laptops to http://www.sphoorti.org .
    2) I use the 2 laptops for my village. Most of the people know basics of the computers. Many people have poor economic background and they want to study and reach a good position. These laptops can be very useful for them where they can use it freely anytime. I will also get the Internet connection for them which will be much more useful for the students. And also our institute has a very good service, e-Sagu: An IT based Personalized Agricultural Extension System, for farmers. Most of the farmers in our village can access this service using these laptops. It will be of great use for the farmers and the students.
In brief, I will use the 2 laptops i) to familiarize the village people in using computers and internet, ii) to provide the training freely (this may take some time to regularize) iii) to provide free printing services iv) to provide free e-mail fecilities for the people who have their relatives staying outside the village(mostly abroad and longer distance).

Currently the above ideas have been in my mind for a long time. But as I can’t afford to buy the required accessories alone, I have been waiting for funds from my friends to implement the above. Currently I am studying…so I am not able to buy the computers…Adding to the above laptops I will try to collect some funds from my friends and buy some more accessories to make it (2) successful.

And I will use the remainig package for my research work and entertainment while also using them for the 2nd cause when needed.

    Thank You

  2. Since my husband and I already have 4 computers (yeah, I know), one of which is only a little over 2 months old, and many other things, I don’t think I would even keep any of the prizes, except maybe a copy of Kung Fu Panda. My 4-year-old brother-in-law would love a copy of that movie, too. I would give one of the notebooks to my mother-in-law who is trying to start a career transcriptioning with only two really old computers to work on. A computer would also go to my family, who are also using ancient machines. My mom is a teacher, and I know she could use a nicer computer, perhaps even one of the notebooks, for her work. Everything else I will work with my church and bishop to make sure it gets to those who could use a little pick-me-up this holiday season.

Actually, could I just get the $6,000 in cash? I could give $500 to 12 families. Let’s do that instead.

(No, really, I’ll take whatever you can give me.)

  3. I would love to donate to an organization, but that isn’t what’s touching my heart. I live in a small rural area, so when something unfortunate happens, word spreads rapidly. There are two local families who had recent house fires: one lost everything and has 6 home schooled kids; the other is a struggling single mom with MS. I would love to be able to give each of them a new laptop to help replace a small part of what they’ve lost. I would also like to donate the blue ray player to a local organization, though I’d have to find out who could use it most first. I’d like to keep the desktop computer for myself since my old one is slowly dying and I’d like a laptop for my college-bound son. He is very bright and will make a great engineer some day, but he has great difficulty with writing. He will need a computer at school and we are nervous about how we’ll pay for college since his test scores indicate that scholarships may not be in his future. I’m not a blogger, but so as not to miss out via a technicality:

  4. My name is Cristian Ballesteros I live in Bogota, Colombia. If I win this grand giveaway I think I will put it to best use because not only will I use it but hundreds if not thousands of people will it as well. I am a 20 year old College student, who is struggling, along with my class mates to finish our school work and assignments. At our College we have a “Compu Center” which in reality is a computer lab that is based of 15 donated computers for school work for the College students. If I win this contest I will donate everything but the HP Mini (I will keep) to our lab at college. The donated hardware will be used by hundreds of College students and we will ALL be grateful for your generosity.

  6. If I’m the lucky winner of this big HP giveaway, I would be very greatfull. I’m 17 years old, going to school and does currently have no work. Because of this, I’d use the prize and split it like you guys wants. I would take a laptop and office for myself since schoolwork is quite mobile, and i don’t have one already, but I would give the rest away. The Touchsmart to my mom so she could maybe start learning to use a computer(I guess it’s easier to touch then to move a mouse ), and my dad always talks about learning video editing, so say hello to VideoStudio, and my brother could use the mediasmart connect unit. But everyone has a printer here, and the rest I could donate to “Frelsesarmeen”(a organization that helps less fortunate people with gifts from us in Norway). This could be my christmas gifts.

  7. I find that this giveaway is a truly great opportunity to personally show some of the people I know just how much I appreciate all that they’ve done for me. Things are tough in Baltimore, and my schooling situation in High School probably couldn’t have been much worse. I went to an “innovation” school, which basically meant a brand new school in which the administration would really just wing it for four years. Many of my peers came from completely non-ideal backgrounds, with second grade reading levels and little skill in math. Many would have given up. But they didn’t. I would use the magic giveaway to show a few of the most significant people just how much I appreciate all that they’ve done.
One of my friends has been a great help to me over the years, from helping me study for the SAT to helping me get into a most prestigious University in Baltimore. Now teaching at my old high school, he graduated college more than $150k in debt, and no clear idea of what exactly he will do with his talents. I would love to show my appreciation to him by giving him one of the laptops to replace his years-old Dell.
With the schooling situation in Baltimore being so bad one other teacher that I know I’m sure would truly benefit from a laptop and perhaps the printer. If there was one teacher throughout my four years of high school that I knew really cared about what he did, it was him. The system did not help him. The school did not help him. Not even the students helped him. But he would always do things for us that affected us in a profound way. He bought us books and encouraged reading. He provided his own room full of computers when there was no real lab in the building. And over four years he taught each of us the most important thing any person could ever be taught: how to think. Though he left the school with our passing, returning to teaching inmates at a local prison, I think he would truly benefit from some of the items in this Magic Giveaway.

  8. I would keep the HP HDX for myself but Id give everything else away. One of the computers Id give to my mom so she can have her own computer and not need to use mine. Another computer would go to my friend Fabrice for being a nice guy and because I think he could really use a new computer. The rest I would try to give to my college or Id try to find someone else whom would benefit from having it.

  9. I’d like to offer the Blue-ray movie to my library. I’m living in a small town and let’s just say that it doesn’t have big $ to spent on things like blue-ray movies or in fact, any movies. I would also like to give a notebook to the library, so that kids would be allowed to use it for projects. I’d also give a laptop to one of the retirement houses. I think that old people benefits much from being in contact with computers. The computer could help them interact with each other and permit them to follow up with the world at there pace and in security. I would give them the printer as well, allowing them to print picture of the kids and family. I would probably give the softwares to cousins as a Xmas gift. There’re all teenagers and going to school. That would be helpful. I would also like to give a laptop to my brother, who might be ask to travel a lot if he’s accepted in the RCMP. I don’t even know yet if he’ll go in Ontario for his study or even further, but with a laptop he should be able to contact us. I’d also like to use a laptop at school for taking notes, but a touch screen is not bad as a personal computer, paired with the mediaSmart, I would have a nice entertainment system at home to relax after a day at university.

I would share this equipment with my sister & brother-in-law and a local Christian High School that can’t afford a lot of fancy equipment. They could learn technology and morality simultaneously.

  11. Winning this competition would be the absolute greatest thing ever!! As for giving our the winnings, a bit harder as all the prizes are good but I’d do it this way: The TouchSmart is easiest, we would keep it in our bedroom and use it as our tv. My fiancée and I have virtually no money so winning such a prize pack would be amazing! We would give the Pavillion dv4 notebook to our good friend who’s been looking for something more environmentally friendly than his current desktop. We’d MediaSmart Connect and add it to the home network for access our media from the living room. My Dad desperately needs a new printer so he’d get the Photosmart and my brother could really use the Mini 1000 because he’s a teacher and his old laptop is too big to use. We’d keep the HDX of course and MS Office would go to my fiancée since she’s still using Office 2000. Kung Fu Panda would allow for awesome movie nights and you can never have enough photo printer ink.

  12. Hi,
About 4 years ago my neices and nephew were taken out of the care of their parents and put into fostercare. They were treated really bad there and the two younger girls were adopted out. My mom has custody of the oldest 2. I want to give them one of the laptops. They recently moved from the city where there parents live and a computer would be a nice way for them to keep in touch with friends and family. My mom doesnt have a computer at all so really this will be good. I would also like to give, probably the mini laptop and the office software to a local school in need. The dvd’s I would like to donate as well (one i might give to my youngest neice and the other 2 i want to donate.
Thanks a lot for your consideration

  13. I’m not very good at the whole blog thing yet, and I’m having a bit of trouble with mine. Since I only have one entry there and no one knows about it, it wouldn’t be helpful to you anyway.

I would use the Touch HP computer for school, studying for my Massage Therapy license as well as additional modalities that will allow me to work in an Oncology department, in complement to the work the Doctors do. I also want to take Hypnotherapy and Morita Therapy (rather then traditional talk therapy, its a get off your A&& and just do it therapy. It will also allow me to play with my writing which thus far has been more fire hazard then hobby and turn it into mixed media.

As you can see, this computer will help give me the tools to give of myself to others. Eventually it would be used for educational purposes for my Snoogs as well. The other mini computer, I’d use for travel to visit family living far away.

Two I’d likely give to my sister who runs a business Helping People & Non-Profits Thrive! She hates computers due to her RSI but needs them for her livelihood. An updated one would be helpful. She’d know where to donate the second to do the most good. If not, I’d like to donate it to a local organization called Center for Grieving Children.

I’ll give the TouchSmart to my parents, and the Mini to my father (he’s really into netbooks, but money’s kinda short, so he hasn’t been able to buy one). I’ll give the other laptop to my brother. I don’t really have any uses for the MediaConnect, so i’ll donate it to a teacher i know that would really appreciate one for her classroom. The printer and other software will probably be donated also.

He has cared for my mother so unselfishly for 17 years, including volunteering to do things for her on his day off. I would give a laptop to him and one to the nursing home. Knowing him as I do, he would share his laptop with the residents as he does his rounds, bringing joy to all the residents.

I would keep the HP Touchsmart desktop as my HP desktop pc is old and needs memory.

I know one of these days it will crap out of me and I wont have anything to edit on! This scares me because besides my 1 external harddrive pretty much everything is on my laptop! I really would LOVE to have a brand new computer that i can trust with all of my precious pictures on them! Since i would only need the desktop PC I would send the one notebook to my sister. She has been wanting one for a long time but hasnt had the money to put into it! The mini notebook would go to my husband who would appreciate it so much because he thinks those little notebooks are the neatest things! The other notebook would go to my mother. Both her and my sister live states away from me and i know it would help us keep better in touch with pictures, emailing and all that fun stuff, she sure misses her grandsons growing up 😦 Whoever gets to win this is going to be one lucky person and make some other people VERY happy!

“60 Minutes” once described 7th Avenue and Buckeye Road, a stretch of inner-city Projects in Phoenix, AZ, as “the most dangerous mile in America”. Today, much remains the same. At this intersection sits a high minority, economically-challenged Senior Adult Center. This is where I will share my HP/Moosh Magic. These Seniors have families living a distance away. With HP Magic I will establish an on-site schedule where Seniors can call home using webcam and VoIP/Skype technology. Given family permission grandparents can virtually visit their children, connecting with grandchildren and even interact online with other tech-savvy Seniors. Life transcends Bingo.

Software, printers and a computer will be donated to a needy elementary school computer lab. W.R. Sullivan is a K-8th grade school located in the heart of Phoenix and the “shadow” of the Arizona Capitol. 96% of the students qualify for free meals. Crime and unemployment is high. No libraries – parks – shopping. This school ranks third highest in at-risk students of the Districts comprising metropolitan Phoenix. Sullivan’s tax base has few homeowners and almost no business/industry sector. The significance is that Sullivan School must educate 1,000 of the city’s most underprivileged children with only meager monetary resources for instruction.

The other laptop I would use for school and scholarships. The movies would go to the school, for prizes in a contest. The Mini would go to my brother. He could use for his school work, since hes really never home, he could use it where ever he is at.

Isn’t it just magic to watch someone get an unexpected blessing?
    3 laptops… what fun!

First would be my best friend. She has 4 kids under 5 and no access to a computer. Her family is facing bankruptcy and recently had to move into a tiny 2 bedroom apartment because they can’t afford anything else. I would love to give her the freedom of her own computer. I can only imagine all the things she could do with it! She’s had so many rough things happen in the last few years (and she never complains) that I’d love to do this nice thing for her!

Next – my husband’s cousin. She’s a senior in high school and the often overlooked younger sister to a girl with some serious rebellious tendencies. She wants to be a writer. This would be the best gift ever for her and something she could never afford on her own.

Finally, I’d give one as a prize to the top student in my husband’s classes. He works with kids who can’t pass the state math test and I hope this would motivate them to work hard!

I’d save the desktop for myself to replace my 4+ year old laptop and help me edit pictures!

  23. If I were to win HP’s Magic Giveaway (which would be TOTALLY awesome) I would spread the wealth three ways.

    1) I would keep only one of the computers for myself, because I’m human after all. 🙂 And I’m in law school (like MooshinIndy’s hubby Cody) and my current home computer is kinda on its way out. Which sucks.

    2) I would give at least one of the computers and one of the Kung Fu Panda DVDs to the Kids Klub ski program at Gore Mountain in upstate New York. It’s a state owned “resort” in the very small town of North Creek. I grew up skiing at Gore and spent a lot of time in their lesson programs. I also worked in the kids program as an instructor for 7 years. Skiing has always been a big part of my life, and I have my parents and the entire staff at Gore to thank for that. To be able to give back to the mountain would be wonderful. They have been working very hard to make the programs and atmosphere for the kids better and better (just last year they opened a new building to house the growing program. There are half-day, full-day and full season programs, so kids spend a lot of time in the center. The mountain also offers special programs to the schools in the area to expose more kids to the hobby and give them an outdoor outlet for all their energy. However, with the recent budget cuts in New York, Gore’s budget has been reduced. I know that this stuff would go a long way to helping expand the Kids program.

    3) I live in Somerville, MA (which is just over the river from Boston). I would love to give the rest of the computers, the really cool printer, the other Kung Fu Panda DVD and whatever else to the City of Somerville Youth Progam.

I like the idea of giving back to the community that I personally live in, and I can’t think of a better way. They do a lot to keep kids active and healthy and away from any bad habits that arise from living in a large metropolitan area. I think the HP Giveaway package would be a great addition to their resources.

So, to sum up, I would keep a computer and give the entirety of the rest of the package to youth programs.

p.s. I don’t have a blog, but I did make fun little links to HP Giveaway, MooshinIndy and the Somerville Youth website when I wrote this all out in word. But they don’t transfer. I can prove it and send you an e-mail attaching it!

  24. If I win this prize package, I would make such a difference in the lives of people! I would give one computer to my son, who is learning disabled and has to be home schooled. He has been in need of a computer for his school work for so long! We take daily trips to the public library, but their time limits are short. I would also give a computer to my local school for the underprivileged children. They don’t have one single computer for the children there. The last computer I would give to my sister’s children. My sister passed away over the summer, and they have lost so much. A new computer would really lift their sprits and they could make a memorial online for their mom. Thanks for considering me for this giveaway!

  25. I would donate two computers to a 5th grade classroom. Maybe I’m biased, because I’m sleeping with the teacher. Ok fine, he’s my husband. He is working on his masters in “Learning and Technology” to utilize technology in his teaching. The problem? His school can’t afford the equipment he needs to implement what he is learning. He has a lot of cool ideas for using computers in teaching, & the kids would love it.

I would give one computer to my brother, who has had an unbelievable string of bad luck. Most recently, two of his three kids came down with the same disease he has. His insurance sucks, and he is looking into internet-business opportunities, for some extra income. (He reads my blog, so I’m posting this here because I would love to surprise him.)

I would keep one computer and the printer for myself. I have been stressed about the inevitable approaching death of my computer, and how my little home business will afford a new one. If I can’t work, there will be a lot of tall pregnant angry women out there. And trust me, those are not people you want to make mad.

The other laptop would be a blessing to me because I am battling MS and being able to sweep, comment on blogs or chat..not to mention shop from the couch really sounds good right now.

I know my son would make good use of the microsoft office and student pack. As for the photo set up..we would all benefit from that.

I would like to win because I want to give my friend Yuji his dream come true. He has been there for us many times and he never asked for anything back and as a teenager, that’s pretty rare. He is in love with technology, but he’s always on a tight budget and cannot afford any good hardware, so this Christmas, I would like to give him the perfect gift, courtesy of HP and MSFT, hardware for him to Photoshop and program on (replacing an old Compaq notebook). I would also like to give my Brother Leon a new computer, because of the horrible economy; we can’t afford to give him even a decent computer for college. So I would like to make up for it and give him what he deserves. Thank you for listening.

  29. No blog for me. : (

If I won this package I would admit to keeping a laptop for myself, but that’s only because I will be needing one next year in college. My family simply cannot afford to purchase one for me, especially since I’ll be needing one that can support large programs (such as AutoCAD) as well as support a wide spectrum of colours. The rest of the “goods” I would be donating to my home church, Prairie Creek Baptist Church, of 17 years. We’ve never been able to have high quality and fancy equipment, much less a fancy building, and just this year our church is finally getting updated. It’s quite apparent though that we’re on a super tight budget and I still don’t know where any of this money is coming from, but it would make me joyous inside to be able to contribute somehow to this milestone in our church’s life. The office area is still using ancient computers and other things that definitely need a face lift in the form of new HP technology. And hey, Kung Fu Panda was an excellent movie for kids, and the DVD could be some sort of reward of excellence in Sunday School classes.

    Thank you for your time!
    ~Brandon.

  30. I am posting here as I do not have a blog page. Thank you for allowing us to do this here!
I am a 5th grade teacher at Parkview Elementary School in Eagle-Mountain Saginaw ISD in Northeast Fort Worth Texas. I have heard from 3 out of the 12 parents that I have already conferenced with before Thanksgiving break that they are in such financial crisis that their children will do without anything this year.
If I were to be the lucky recipient of your prize package all of the technology and equipment would be used to benefit the students that I teach. I would supplement the classroom that currently teach to make sure that I am able to effectively teach the students and make them responsible citizens, as they are the ones who will be taking care of you and me in our aging years. I would continue to use the technology in my classroom to benefit these 88 students and the future 5th graders that I teach. After making sure that the classroom was effective, I would love to make sure that the families that I have heard from that are struggling to get by have a Christmas for their children. Regardless of whether I win this or not, I will still do the latter; however, this generous prize package would allow me to reach even more families in need. I hope that you will consider me and my students when you make your selection for your winner!

  31. I would like to nominate a very worthwhile organization to receive this wonderful prize, the Best DAWG Rescue. BSR was born of desperation to help shelter dogs be adopted. Their mission is to save dogs with treatable medical conditions, and overlooked or shy dogs not selected by anyone else. Millions of dogs are euthanized every year and even shelters with a “no-kill” policy still have to euthanize helpless dogs.

These dogs were left for dead, work out mother dogs saved by shelters only to feed their puppies, dogs at the verge of death, dogs for whom people had “no more time.”

My family has rescued three of these miracle dogs and we wish that we could do more. The Rescue has no financial safety net and exists solely through the generosity of others. Times are tough right now and not many people are donating, not because they do not want to, but because they cannot. As the year draws to a close, donations are down to levels that will not carry them forward without additional support.

This prize would help the Rescue continue their work, as the volunteer run group is currently using outdated equipment to support their wonderful cause.

  32. I believe in paying it forward. I work at a local newspaper and several years ago I was lucky enough to start “Holiday Wish List,” an annual chance for non-profit organizations in our community to write in and tell us what their needs are. We publish them in the paper and our on Web site, http://www.etruth.com, and ask those who have more to donate what they can to help. One youth center was given $10,000 for a renovation! Many have asked for computer equipment. I would keep one of the laptops for myself, one for my kids (who just lost their father) and donate the rest of the package to those organizations. This is a great opportunity to help several non-profit organizations in Elkhart.
